"Looking Down the Alley"

"Looking Down the Alley" is 14 x 16 poured watercolor. This was a challenge the art group I belong to decided to do for December. This is a small walk through alley in the town I frequent. This was way out of my comfort zone. I started by masking out the highlight areas. Wet the paper and poured a yellow, blue and red. Let it dry. Masked out more areas and repeated the masking and pouring for three more pours. I am not totally displeased with this. I should not have masked out the sidewalk going back, so that it would match the front sidewalk. After I show this to the group, I can try and glaze this area. I did pick a difficult subject that I have been going to paint for awhile. I am going to try this process again. I learned that I really need to think more when masking.

It might be out of your comfort zone, but the results are strong - clear and interesting.
